The Place
The Queen Vic is a HMC Certified Fish and Chip Restaurant in Blackburn specialising in fried fish of different types, chips, pies, pastries, Burgers and much much more! I’ve always loved Fish and Chips but it can be so hard checking if the place is halal and ensuring there is no cross contamination. We were super over the moon to find out that The Queen Vic exists and the place is HMC certified which means you can enjoy everything with peace of mind. They are also located in Preston and Chorley. What is even better is there is plenty of seating and they still do chip shop prices.
I love that The Queen Vic is a comfortable place with a real authentic vibe. It takes me back to my childhood and reminds me of Blackpool. But after finding out that the fish and chip shops aren’t halal, it doesn’t feel the same anymore but worry not! all hail The Queen Vic haha! The place is really big with plenty of room regardless of how busy they are. There is parking next to the place. The Queen Vic also does delivery so you can enjoy your halal chippy at home. We Were amazed by how many options the place has and ordered a bit of everything. At the back of the place there is a private area which is perfect for those that wear Pardah Alhamdulillah.
The food
I was so hungry on arrival that I couldn’t wait for everything to be done so I quickly grabbed a Cone of Chips (£1.00) and they were delicious. Sadly it wasn’t an actual cone but the portion was massive. The chips were so good I couldn’t wait for the rest of the food. You could also tell the oil was clean from the flavour of the chips which was great.
We later got a Large Chips (2.50) which was MASSIVE. I couldn’t believe how many chips we ended up with. There were 5 of us and we struggled to finish all the food and ended up taking left overs home. But it’s very good value for money if i say so myself!
We also purchased a bottle of their chip shop of their vinegar because my Mum absolutely loves vinegar and said there is nothing quite like it what they do here!
Often I want a pie but can’t get one given they aren’t halal so we tried a bit of everything because we were in the mood to try different stuff.
Cheese and Onion Pie (£1.50) – This was absolutely delicious and I will definitely be getting one again. It was crispy on the outside and the cheese was delicious and rich on the inside. As i pulled the pie apart, the cheese oozed out on to the plate which got me salivating!
Meat and Potato Pie (£1.50) – I was really excited about this because I haven’t had one for ages and usually I wish I could have one but they aren’t halal. This was really satisfying.
COD Bites (£2.80) – So I decided to order these because they sounded so interesting. I had no idea what to expect I was imagining frozen kinds fish bites but I was surprised by just how big the portion was and how fresh they tasted. You get 6 long strips of fish which were bigger than my fingers and super filling.
Cod (£3.40) – this was massive!!! I’ve never ordered fish that was such a big portion especially at such a low price. We struggled to finish it as there was so much but it still tasted good reheated. For me, the batter is the star of the meal and my family always fight over the batter whenever we order fish and chips back at home. This was so so good i ate most of the batter haha. I was impressed that the batter tasted fresh, clean and less oily too!
You can probably tell the family ordered a bit of everything and the sauces and sides were a massive hit. We had the mushy peas, curry sauce, gravy and baked beans and they all complemented the food really well. They were each 80p whilst the Heinz sauces were 20p. Who doesn’t love gravy and chips?! The gravy was pretty good and tasted moreish!
The Queen Vic has plenty of options when it comes to drinks. I don’t usually get many drinks but there were so many options that we ended up getting a little of everything. The cans were 80p each as was water
Latte (£1.50) – Mum needed a quick coffee fix and she went for this Latte and she really enjoyed it! She loved having it with the meal.
The verdict
The Queen Vic is amazing. There has definitely a need for a halal chippy to give us peace of mind when ordering. The place has so much to offer and it all tastes delicious. The prices aren’t too high and the portion sizes are massive. Some of our personal favourites were the chips of course, we somehow ended up with so many. The haddock was great and also massive. The cheese and onion pie was delicious as was the spring roll. I’d definitely recommend you try it out if you love some good fish and chips.
