Ramadan Kareem everyone! I can’t believe we are 10 days into this blessed month! I thought what better way to ease us into the next few weeks of Ramadan than sharing with you a recipe of this Sunnah drink which is definitely a forgotten Sunnah in these times!

Nabeeth is a Sunnah drink which is so easy to make yet it’s tasty delish, its healthy, has Shifa (cure) from many ailments and full of nutritional benefits. Let’s revive the Sunnah and gain the extra Baraqah by drinking this amazing Nabith in this blessed month!

Jabir ibn Abdullah (ra) narrates: We were with the Prophet (s). He asked for something to drink. One of the companions asked: O Prophet of Allah, shall we not give you nabeez to drink? The Prophet (s) said yes, why not! This companion left quickly and came back with a cup of nabeez. The Prophet (s) said, why didn’t you cover the cup even though it may have been with a stick. Thereafter he drank from it.

Note!

NAbith Must be drank within 2 days or a max of 3 days.

Before making this Recipe, there are a few things to note. Nabeedh needs to be consumed within 2-3 days. After this it will start to ferment which is the beginning process of alcohol. This is haraam (forbidden).

Ibn 'Abbas reported that Nabidh was prepared for Allah's Messenger (ﷺ) in the waterskin, Shu'ba said: It was the night of Monday. He drank it on Monday and on Tuesday up to the afternoon, and If anything was left out of it he gave it to his servant or poured it out.

Nabeedh Recipe

Nabith is a drink that is simply made from dates and it's a Sunnah of our Prophet Muhammad (Salallahu Alayhi Wasallam). Nabeeth have many nutritional benefits and cures. Here is the recipe and it's so easy!

Ingredients

  • 5 dates (double it up if you want to make more and if you want it sweeter)
  • 500ml water

Instructions

  • Wash and De-seed the Dates
  • Place the Dates in water to soak in the fridge in a small jug overnight.
  • This is how the dates will look over the hours while it's soaking!
  • The next day, remove the dates and pour them into a glass and enjoy!

"I asked Abu Ja'far about Nabidh and he said: " 'Ali bin Husain, may Allah be pleased with him, would have Nabidh made for him at night, and he would drink it in the morning, and he would have Nabidh made in the morning and he would drink it at night.'"

Sunan an-Nasa'i 5741

Abdullah b. Buraida reported on the authority of his father that Allah's Messenger (ﷺ) said this: I prohibited you from visiting the graves, but (now) you may visit them, and I prohibited you (from eating) the flesh of sacrific- ed animals beyond three days, but now keep it as long as you like. I prohibited you from the use of Nabidh except (that preoared) in dry waterskins. Now drink (Nabidh prepared in any utensil), but do not drink when it becomes intoxicant.

Anas reported: I served drink to Allah's Messenger (ﷺ) in this cup of mine: honey, Nabidh, water and milk.

Abu Sa'id al-Khudri reported Allah's Messenger (ﷺ) as saying: He who amongst you drinks Nabidh should drink that (prepared either from) grapes alone, or from dates alone, or from unripe dates alone (and not by mixing them with one another).
