Brew Coffeehouse & Tea Room – Batley

Brew – A Coffeehouse & Tearoom / Brunch bar has arrived in the heart of Batley, West Yorkshire, serving up a wide selection of breakfast and brunch options, along with a variety of loose leaf tea, coffees, dessert, and sweet/savoury treats. Batley was definitely missing a halal brunch place like this and I’m so excited to share my experience with you! Brew stands out from the rest of the local halal breakfast places because their ingredients are high quality and everything is homemade from the bread to the cakes and much much more. They also make their sausages and rashers themselves using the meats sourced from the popular Hillfarm Finest. Hillfarm is known for its premium Aberdeen Angus meat and all their meat is free-range and grass-fed. Also what makes this even better is that all meat at Brew is from a Halal, non-stunned, hand Zabah source. Alhamdulillah. We have also included the menu at the bottom so check out what other amazing things they do. It’s nice to see that my hometown is opening decent places to eat finally!

The Place Brew Batley, offer a modern contemporary, minimalistic and simple look with dark wood incorporated everywhere with warm, ambient lighting which creates a cosy atmosphere. I really love the dark, velvet green chairs surrounded by glass tables as it immediately creates an enticing space to socialise.

To match, they have scattered cushions which are the same colour as the chairs to complement the whole look and finishes it off. I must say, Brew has definitely pulled the decor off considering that the place isn’t that huge! you wouldn’t even think that it was a former Job Centre building!

The Food

Upon entering, you will have noticed they have an adjoining shop selling bake supplies by “The Baker’s Cupboard.” They basically own Brew which makes sense because they make their own bread, cakes (nearly everything) at the store which I think is amazing! Bear in mind, the place isn’t huge and spacious with loads of tables, so you might have to wait in the queue due to popularity so get there early!

Brew, Batley is a breath of fresh air to the halal food scene of Yorkshire. Finally, a fully halal, non-stunned brunch spot serving good quality, healthy brunch options, cakes, Macarons, Ice Cream, Coffee etc Their vision is to produce good, high-quality ingredients into their dishes with homemade cakes and bakes to suit the palate of Yorkshire!

I love that they are different from MOST brunch spots in the area because they use premium meat which is fresh and not frozen! Their sausages are HAND MADE and the rashers are 100% Aberdeen Angus brisket which goes to show that they aren’t messing about! They do sell out quickly so I advise that you get there first thing in the morning!

At Brew, they use organic free-range eggs from County Durham that is delivered fresh within a period of time and the Ice-cream (for the milkshakes) is from prestigious Ice Cream union in London. I also love how they cater to those who follow a non-dairy, gluten-free diet so everyone is looked after and their needs are met.

Brew Batley, are constantly introducing a range of new unique and innovative dishes and drinks to their menu. To name a few: Brunch Nachos, Daal baked Eggs, Beetroot Latte, Portobello Mushrooms on Sourdough on Toast. They all sound incredible and I’m looking forward to trying these out next time! Now let’s brunch…

Eggs Benedict (£7.95) – Two, toasted sourdough bread topped with a generous spread of sauteed Spinach, sliced Smoked Beef Brisket, Poached Eggs and a drizzle of Hollandaise Sauce. Sadly, the Beef Brisket was out of stock so instead, I got Smoked Salmon on the side. The Sourdough Bread is organic and made from scratch, by hand using a sourdough starter. It had a crisp cut, with a soft centre which went really well with the gorgeous poached eggs that were oozing all the yellow yolk with a brief touch of the knife. The Hollandaise Sauce was an absolute delight with a sharp and tangy taste! I’m personally not too fond of smoked salmon but those who are will love it because it was fresh and of good quality.

Shakshuka (£7.95) – Egg baked in a skillet pan with Brew’s homemade Tomato Sauce with Peppers, Garlic and Spices, served with homemade Sourdough Bread slices. The presentation was beautiful as it was served in the skillet that the egg was baked in. Might I say, this was one of the best shakshuka’s I have had in a very long time! The flavour of the tomato sauce was utterly lip-smacking, absorbing all those spices whilst the egg was soft and it call came together in harmony. This dish DEFINITELY gets my approval and I highly recommend it!

Berry French Toast (£5.95) – Homemade Croissant Loaf with Mixed Berry Compote, Fresh Berries, Creme Fraiche and Maple Syrup. The French Toast was soft on the inside and flaky on the outside with a nice texture but still nice and light. The Creme Fraiche was a delight and complimented the berries really well. This dish was a beautiful contrast of vibrant colours and the taste was just delicious! I would definitely order this again without a doubt!

Pancake (£6.95) – Large Buttermilk Pancake topped with sliced Strawberries and smothered with Nutella. This was absolutely delicious! My sister ordered this and she finished it all! Bear in mind she has a small appetite and that’s saying something. I also really enjoyed this especially because of the texture of the Pancake. It wasn’t soggy and grainy at all. and the strawberries were sweet and delicious which is hardly the case in most dessert places. Beautifully made!

Cinnamon Rolls – Signature dough made in-house, rolled with Cinnamon and topped with a homemade Cream Cheese Frosting. I can’t stress enough how DELICIOUS this was! This was literally heaven on a plate! The best thing about this is that the dough was freshly made by Brew and you could really taste the quality of the dough. You can’t beat homemade bakes!

Victoria Sponge Cake Slice (2.95) – Do I even need to make an introduction? An absolute classic cake which is loved by most people! This was a winner in all its glory and I’m not ashamed to admit that I devoured the whole thing leaving no crumbs on the plate! Beautiful, a true classic and utterly mouthwatering!

The Drinks Brew’s drinks Menu offers a variety of single-origin Looseleaf Teas, house blend Coffees, Hot Chocolate, Milkshakes, Smoothies, Chilled Cooler etc to choose from and they all sound BREWtiful 😛 Their coffees consist of origins from Brazil, Colombia, Guatemala and Sumatra and they use whole organic Milk for Coffee. Alternatively, they have non-dairy options such as Oat Milk to cater to those with dietary requirements. Their chilled coolers sound nice and I’m looking forward to trying it soon! This is what we opted for…

Mocha (£3.45) – Whenever there is Mocha on the menu, it is the first thing I order because it is one of my favourite Chocolate + Coffee combinations. The Mocha contained real Cacao Powder which is a healthier version than Cocoa Powder because it is unprocessed and retains more nutritional value. This Mocha was quite different in taste due to this because it had a draw flavour to it so it wasn’t to my usual liking but that’s just my own preference, however, there is no harm in trying new drinks!

To the back is the Mocha

Milkshake (£3.95) – Chocolate Milkshake blended with Icecream from the Prestigious Icecream in London. I just had to get it for my journey home to try it out.

Latte (£2.70) – I love a good Latte and this one just hits the spot! It was a nice creamy blend and I really enjoyed it on a cold day! It was a perfect drink to go with the brunch dishes!

To the front is the Latte

The Staff – Our waiter aimed to fulfil our requirements as quickly as possible and ensured our needs were met. The manager/owner is extremely passionate about delivering high-quality meat sourced from Hillfarm Finest as well as all of the ingredients used in the kitchen. He aims to try and please the diners and exceed their expectations in all aspects with regards to food. However, he mentioned that most people fail to recognise the best meats they serve like Sausages and Aberdeen Angus Brisket because they are used to the low quality, processed meats, which is a shame but he is being hopeful that the customer’s palates will change for the better!

The Verdict – I must say that I was hugely impressed with my experience at Brew. The food was spectacular and the cakes were just as delicious and this was mainly due to the fact that their ingredients are good quality and not cheap as chips. I am aware that I have stressed this point a couple of times but it is worth bragging about because they have certainly ensured that the customers are getting the very best cuts of free-range and grass-fed premium meat, eggs, bread etc. This has a huge impact on the dishes they create and it is definitely worth every penny. I will certainly be visiting again soon and trying out the new dishes which has been recently added to the menu. I URGE you guys to try this place out and let me know what you think in the comments below about your experience!
