Bake Street is a cool cafe, based in Stoke Newington, London offering an amazing selection of Tea, Speciality Coffee, Cakes, Bakes along with some amazing Brunch options. Bake St is extremely transparent when it comes to all of their produce. They have a huge focus on producing everything in-house where ever possible or they use trusted local suppliers & they clearly display the current suppliers for the chicken, meat, dairy products, eggs, bread e.t.c at the bottom of the menu, ensuring that you have no worries with regards to where the food which we eat comes from and they are also committed to local produce. Alhamdulillah at the time of dining, all of the meat and chicken was from a Non-Stunned, Hand Zabiha local butcher. But as we always say, when ever you choose to anywhere, please do your own checks just to be on the safe side In Sha Allah.
Bake St is a family owned business by a delightful lady called Amirah who bakes the most amazing cakes, as well as her talented brother Feroz, who is in charge of the kitchen, cooking up all the delicious plates of brunch and lunch bites. I really wished that I had met them when visiting and compliment them personally about the whole concept of their brunch shop, they have carefully thought out the menu, you can also tell that they are extremely passionate about their food because this is without a doubt portrayed in the exceptional food they create. I definitely had to check this place out, because everyone was raving on about it on Instagram, I had one look at their instafeed and immediately decided that this was on my list of places to try and I finally had the chance to head down South to experience what they had to offer!
The Place
Bake street has a homely rustic interior incorporating wooden tables and chairs of different sizes to fit any group or couple. They have used the space to fit as
I love how they have added cute accessories throughout the cafe, they even have a wall filled with thank you cards & notes from happy customers. They also have bar stools in the window for those having a quick coffee.
As you walk in, a spread of freshly baked goods meet your eyes, from the likes of crispy and fluffy croissants, to gorgeous looking heavenly cakes sat beside each other, but this varies as they serve quite an array of bakery options which is always great as everything is fresh and not shop bought! Thanks to Amirah, owner and head baker who works incredibly hard ensuring everyone is suited to their palate!
Amirah also runs her own bakery company called Evering Cakes, selling her delicious cakes to order! Which you can also order in store. Bake street is also
The Team
The team at Bake Street delivered really well, the lady who served us was a happy and jolly lady, always made sure we were okay and if we needed anything, she delivered everything in quick time with no waiting. They were very friendly and helpful and extremely passionate about what they serve. Alhamdulillah, we didn’t have any hiccups during my experience, this goes to show that they really care about their customers and they want to deliver really well and be the best they can be. Will I be visiting again?
The head chef Feroz at Bake Street aims to deliver exceptional dishes to tantalise your taste buds. He clearly understands the art of cooking to a degree that everyone will go back for more! The creativity which he adds to the dishes is beyond your imagination due to the fresh raw ingredients which he uses to combine the flavours and making your mouth dance with delight. It’s also amazing to think that their sauces, condiments and their Beef rashers are homemade & cured in-house! I made my way down and was immediately ushered to sit down and take in the menu.
The Food
Bake Street’s menu features some of their best selling dishes like the “fried chicken benedict” which initially you think is crazy when you see it on the menu but once you taste the first bite you are blown away by it. I saw this on their Instagram and I was like
Fried Chicken Benedict (£12.00) – Fried Chicken piled on top of a toasted English Muffin, along with Free Range Golden Yolk Poached Eggs, smothered all over with Hollandaise sauce (which is one of my favourite type of sauces), sweet salsa and sriracha mayo. Beautifully presented in their finest crockery, which is definitely #instagrammable This was incredibly delicious. If you just heard about this then you wouldn’t be willing to order this because it just sounds so bizarre. But give it a try as I was amazed by how good it was. The fried chicken was crispy on the outside and juicy on the inside, whilst cutting with the knife, the soft poached eggs oozed out all the yellow yolky goodness, straight down to the chicken caressing it ever so lightly. The flavour of the hollandaise sauce lifted the whole dish with its silky texture and sharp, tangy taste. This is a MUST to order!
Eggs Florentine (£8.50) – Poached Eggs on a toasted English Muffin, with a bed of baby spinach leaves, drowned with hollandaise sauce. I added a side of Avocado because I always crave this when going out for brunch. The poached eggs were perfectly seasoned and I didn’t even need to add a pinch of pepper or salt much to my amazement. Usually, I’ve always encountered under seasoned eggs when going out for brunch. This is the only place where i didn’t need to! I loved everything about this, the avocado was soft, almost melting in your mouth and didn’t find it grainy or tough at all which I usually do find it in some places. The silky smooth runny golden yolk combined with the crunchy spinach leaves was intensely satisfying. This was definitely worth waiting for and I happily devoured it!
Crispy Nanban Fried Chicken Burger (£8.00) – Fried Chicken with soft cheese, Heinz, tangy pickles and sriracha mayo all sandwiched in between a soft bun. The fried chicken was incredibly crunchy, crumbling into my mouth as I take every bite, tearing the soft and tenderness chicken, whilst the cheese was soft and light and the sriracha mayo finished it all off. This wasn’t the kind of greasy burger you would get in fast food takeaways, it was incredibly clean and I could taste all the flavours coming together.
The Drinks
Bake Street
Cappuccino (£2.90) – Bake Street serves the highly popular Climpson estate Blend type of coffee which I was eager to try. Although I’m not much of a coffee drinker, I do like to order a nice coffee and caffeinate myself when I
Orange Juice (£3.00) – it was a bright sunny day and this made me crave a classic OJ so I ordered one and I can actually confirm that this orange juice literally was the best orange juice I have ever had in my entire life. Seriously. It does not even come near to the Innocent or Tropicana orange juices. This was just refreshingly satisfying, you could instantly tell that it was freshly squeezed with pure 100% orange juice and it tasted sweet. Literally AH-MAZING!
Cold Brew (£3.00) – single origin cold brewed coffee. My friend opted for this and they really enjoyed this drink, confirming it was the best they’ve had, they could taste the various notes and flavours of the coffee blend.
The Verdict
Overall, in my opinion I will visit Bake Street again and I recommend you guys to do the same and trust me, you will not be disappointed. They have a great breakfast and brunch options with an extensive menu for teas and coffee which I really want to try next time in
Bake Street have an extreme focus on transparency with everything that can be done in-house, made in-house, or else they will source locally and support smaller businesses but clearly display who suppliers for everything at the bottom of the menu.
